The estate

The Mastroberardino estate is a leading example of the great wines of southern Italy and bears witness to a unique winegrowing heritage. For over 200 years, ten generations of passionate winegrowers have succeeded one another, all driven by the desire to reveal the finest expression of the terroirs of Campania and Irpinia in Italy. Today, guided by the artistic spirit of Piero Mastroberardino, the 250-hectare family estate thrives at the heart of three prestigious appellations: Greco di Tufo, Fiano di Avellino and Taurasi.

The wine

In 1996, ancient roots buried deep in the ruins of Pompeii in Italy were identified, and in 2001 the Mastroberardino family decided to produce the first wine from the ancient city's vineyards. However, the precious bottle is now set to disappear: following a change in the management of the Pompeii site, the vines have been uprooted. Therefore 2021 is the last vintage produced on the Pompeii terroir by the estate, a symbol of history and rarity.

The vineyard

Villa dei Misteri is a Campania wine made from vines aged between 15 and 20 years old. It is produced from 200 square metres of vines planted on the ancient vineyards of Pompeii.

Winemaking and ageing

Maceration for 25 days, at a temperature maintained between 22 and 24°C. Aged in French oak barrels for 24 months.

Tasting

Colour
The wine has a beautiful ruby red colour.

Nose
A complex, aromatic nose with hints of spices such as vanilla and cinnamon. There are also hints of toast and fruit (plum and cherry) mixed with fine mineral nuances.

Palate
Spicy and well-balanced on the palate.
