Description

The aromatic richness and balance of an Italian wine from Montepulciano d'Abruzzo

The estate

Since its creation, Masciarelli has been telling the story of fine Italian wines. The estate was founded in 1981 by Gianni Masciarelli, a forerunner in the new Italian wine scene and in the rebirth of viticulture in Abruzzo. Thanks to his talent and determination, he succeeded in turning the region’s two most important grape varieties, Trebbiano and Montepulciano, into excellent world-renowned varieties. Combining rural tradition and enhancing local grape varieties, the estate showcases how local values can travel well-beyond borders through wine.

The vineyard

Located in the heart of Italy, in the region of Abruzzo, Masciarelli is rooted in the heart of the most picturesque natural scenery. From the rocky peaks of the Apennine mountains to the blue-colour of the Adriatic Sea, vineyards and olive groves majestically spread across this land whose beauty has been the source of great fascination for centuries. The estate’s vineyard located in S. Martino and S. Marrucina is situated at an altitude of 400 metres. In the Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOC appellation, Masciarelli provides the utmost care to its vines that are deeply rooted in clay-limestone soil.

Vinification and ageing

The hand-picked grapes are fermented for 15 to 20 days. Malolactic fermentation in steel vats. The wine is aged for 18 to 24 months. Additional ageing of 2 to 3 years in bottle before being put on the market.

The blend

Montepulciano d'Abruzzo (100%).
