The property
Since its creation, Masciarelli has been part of the story of great Italian wines. The estate was founded in 1981 by Gianni Masciarelli, a pioneer of the viticulture renaissance in Abruzzo and the new Italian wine scene. Thanks to his talent and determination, he managed to make the two most important grape varieties in the region, Trebbiano and Montepulciano, into world-renowned grape varieties of excellence. By combining rural tradition with the valorization of native grape varieties, the estate demonstrates the ability of local values to cross borders through wine.
The vineyard
Located in the heart of Italy, in the Abruzzo region, Masciarelli is nestled in the midst of a most picturesque natural spectacle. From the rocky peaks of the Apennines to the blue of the Adriatic Sea, vineyards and olive groves majestically stretch across this terroir whose beauty has fascinated for centuries. There, the estate's vineyard located in Controguerra stands at 200 metres above sea level. On the Montepulciano d’Abruzzo DOC appellation, Masciarelli meticulously cares for its vines deeply rooted in sandy soil.
The wine
Produced since 2003, the Iskra Riserva cuvée from Masciarelli is a Montepulciano d'Abruzzo wine from vineyards located in the municipality of Controguerra, resting on clay-sandy soils.
