Description
A rich and elegant Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru wine
The estate
Founded in 1797, Domaine Louis Latour is currently run by the family’s 11th generation and is headed by Louis-Fabrice Latour. As a wine merchant and grower, Louis Latour owns the largest estate of Grands Crus in Burgundy.
The vineyard
Situated to the south-west of Romanée-Saint-Vivant, this plot of land, best known as "Les Quatre Journaux", enjoys a superb exposure. The Latour family has owned part of this terroir since 1898, and currently owns a 0.8-hectare vineyard that produces a fine Romanée-Saint-Vivant wine. The name of this plot - "Les Quatre Journaux" - refers to the old Burgundian measurement system, one "Journal" corresponds to around 0.40 hectares. The vines are 30 years old on average and are planted on iron clay soils.
Vinification and ageing
The hand-picked grapes are fermented in open-top vats and in the traditional manner. Complete malolactic fermentation. The wine is aged for 10 to 12 months in new French oak barrels that stem from the cooperage of Louis Latour.
The blend
Pinot Noir (100%).
