Description

The aromatic expression and structure of a Gevrey Chambertin Premier Cru by Louis Jadot

The estate

Established since 1859, Maison Louis Jadot is a true benchmark in Burgundy. Its adventure began with the acquisition of a plot of land in 1826. Its trading activity led to its swift international recognition. Today and since 1992, the house is managed by Pierre-Henry Gagey and still ensures that Burgundy wines remain accessible to those who love high-quality wines.

At the head of Maison Louis Jadot since 1992, Pierre-Henry Gagey entrusted his position to Thomas Seiter (Bouchard Père et Fils) and role of General Manager to his son Thibault Gagey in September 2022.

The vineyard

Gevrey-Chambertin is a famous Burgundy village in the north of the Côte de Nuits, with 26 Premiers Crus and 8 Grands Crus, including Clos Saint-Jacques. Situated on a fault block of the Combe de Lavaux nature reserve, Clos Saint-Jacques enjoys a south-east exposure and rests on limestone soils that are also composed of clayey marl. This Gevrey-Chambertin wine illustrates all the nobility and singularity of Pinot Noir grapes that have truly thrived on one of the most prestigious terroirs in Burgundy.

The vintage

2021 is a year marked by severe frost at the beginning of April and unstable weather conditions throughout the year. Despite a below-average harvest, the quality is reflected through the floral and well-balanced white wines as well as vibrant, full and aromatic red wines.

Vinification and ageing

Harvested by hand then destemmed. Maceration of the grapes in open wooden or stainless steel vats for 3 to 4 weeks. Fermentation with two punchings of the cap per day. Aged for 18 months in barrels made by the cooperage of Maison Louis Jadot.

The blend

Pinot Noir (100%).
