Description
The potency and roundness of a Chambertin Grand cru wine by Louis Jadot
The estate
The Maison Louis Jadot, established in 1859, is a real benchmark in Burgundy. The family venture began with the acquisition of the famous Beaune Premier Cru Ursules vineyard in 1826.
The house then made its name through trade, which has today won it international acclaim, especially across the Atlantic. The Maison Louis Jadot sets out to carry on the idea of a Burgundy accessible to all lovers of quality wine across a wide range of products from regional appellations, Villages, Premiers Crus and Grand Crus.
Head of Maison Louis Jadot since 1992, Pierre-Henry Gagey entrusted his position to Thomas Seiter (Bouchard Père et Fils) and the rôle of General Manager to his son Thibault.
The vineyard
This Chambertin Grand cru by Louis Jadot comes from a vineyard in the north of Côte de Nuits, resting on limestone and clayey soils on gentle slopes facing east.
The vintage
2021 was a year marked by severe frost in April and unstable weather conditions in Burgundy. Despite a smaller harvest than usual, the quality shone through, with floral and balanced white wines as well as bright, full-bodied and aromatic red wines.
Winemaking and ageing
During the harvest done by hand, the grapes were stored in small baskets to preserve the essential qualities of the fruit. Once in the cellar, the grape ripening took place in wooden or stainless steel vats. During fermentation, the cap was trodden twice each day. Finally, the wine was aged for 18 months in casks made by Maison Louis Jadot’s own cooperage.
