Description
A rich and subtle Beaune wine
The estate
The Maison Louis Jadot, established in 1859, is a real benchmark in Burgundy. The family venture began with the acquisition of the famous Beaune Premier Cru Ursules vineyard in 1826.
The house then made its name through trade, which has today won it international acclaim, especially across the Atlantic. The Maison Louis Jadot sets out to carry on the idea of a Burgundy accessible to all lovers of quality wine across a wide range of products from regional appellations, Villages, Premiers Crus and Grand Crus.
Head of Maison Louis Jadot since 1992, Pierre-Henry Gagey entrusted his position to Thomas Seiter (Bouchard Père et Fils) and the role of General Manager to his son Thibault.
The vineyard
The Premier cru "Aux Cras" from Domaine Gagey Louis Jadot 2021 is a Beaune wine from the "Aux Cras" vineyard, facing south-east, at an altitude of 260 metres on a steep slope. This terroir is characterised by a quite deep and stony soil, from which it takes its name (site of ancient quarries).
The vintage
2021 was a year marked by severe frost in April and unstable weather conditions in Burgundy. Despite a smaller harvest than usual, the quality shone through, with floral and balanced white wines as well as bright, full-bodied and aromatic red wines.
Winemaking and ageing
After the harvest, the grapes were destemmed and vinified in vats over about four weeks. After devatting, the wine was funneled into oak casks and aged for 18 months.
