Description
A complex and delicate Haut-Médoc Second Wine
The estate
The property of the Merlaut family since 2005, Château de Camensac is an estate built in the 18th century in the Haut-Médoc, on the left bank of Bordeaux. This 1855 5th Grand Cru Classé has undergone major investments, both in the vineyard and in the cellar, which have enabled the estate to equip itself with the tools it needs. Château de Camensac now stands out as an essential name among the great wines of Bordeaux’s Left Bank.
The vineyard
An unmissable reference among Haut-Médoc wines, the Château de Camensac vineyard stretches across 86 hectares on two different types of soil: the Günzian gravel found in Saint-Julien and the Villefranchian gravel found in Pessac-Léognan. It is these two types of soil that gives the estate's wines their unique quality.
The wine
La Closerie de Camensac is Château de Camensac’s Second Wine.
The vintage
The first months of the year saw mild weather but also significant rainfall. Despite these conditions and thanks to a window of good weather, flowering was even. The scorching summer was broken up by a rainy episode at the beginning of September, which opened up the ripening process. The late harvest was carried out in glorious weather, ideal for the Cabernet Sauvignon and a sign of a great Médoc vintage.
Blend
Merlot (85%)
Cabernet Sauvignon (15%)
