Description
The structure and richness of a Campania wine
The estate
Founded in 1999, the Joaquin estate is an unusual property in Campania, in the southwestern part of Italy. The descendant of an important line of winegrowers, Raffaele Pagano advocates a unique philosophy from the vine to the cellar and aims at producing rare wines that magnify the authentic expression of the terroir and the grape varieties.
Located in the province of Avellino, the estate's uniqueness lies in its vineyards, which are made up of old vines dating back to the 19th century that miraculously resisted Phylloxera.
The vineyard
Joaquin's Riserva della Società is a Taurasi wine that stems from vineyards located in the Paternopoli wine-growing area. The 125-year-old vines face north on volcanic soil and are poised at an altitude of 550 metres.
Vinification and ageing
The grapes are harvested exclusively by hand. Following vinification, the wine is aged in oak barrels for 18 to 24 months.
The blend
This 2014 Riserva della Società from Joaquin is a 100% Aglianico.
