Description
A fine white wine from the Cyclades with a delicate and mineral character
The estate
Gaia Estate was founded in 1994 by Yiannis Paraskevopoulos, an agronomist from the University of Athens and a doctor in oenology from the University of Bordeaux III, and Leon Karatsalos, also an agronomist from the University of Athens. Both founders exemplify the Greek travelling spirit and the will to acquire a wealth of knowledge and experience, all characteristics that shine through their wines. Their aim is to offer the best possible result to wine lovers from all around the world. The project of the two founders is fuelled by the desire to set up vineyards in the two most prominent Greek wine regions, Santorini and Nemea, and to produce competitive high-quality wines.
The vineyard
The Gaia Estate’s vineyards lie in the heart of the Santorini appellation. Thalassitis Assyrtiko 2020 stems from old vines, aged between 70 and 80 years old and located at an altitude ranging between 50 and 250 metres.
Vinification and ageing
Before fermentation, the grapes are in contact with their skins for 12 hours at 10 degrees. The wine ferments in stainless steel tanks between 16 and 18 degrees. The wine is aged for 4 months in stainless steel vats with regular stirring.
