Description
The aromatic intensity and richness of a great Tuscan vintage
The estate
An essential reference point for the great wines of Italy, Frescobaldi embodies the excellence of winegrowing in Tuscany. With seven different estates located in benchmark growing areas, Frescobaldi stands out for its ability to illustrate the full diversity of expression of the greatest Tuscan terroirs. Each of the estates has its own history, its own terroir, and passionate men and women who are driven by the desire to produce great wines. Frescobaldi Tenuta Castelgiocondo, located in the southwest of Montalcino, is one of the seven pillars of the Frescobaldi family estates. With an exceptional vineyard located on great terroirs, this estate is at the origin of great Tuscan red wines.
The wine
Produced since 1991 among 12 hectares of vines at the Castelgiocondo estate at Montalcino, Lamaione is an IGT Toscana wine which is intended to reflect the characteristics of its own terroir. Placed on a clayey soil rich in limestone and minerals, these vines produce Merlots as distinctive for their powerful aromatic expression as for their dense and silky texture, reflecting the great wines of the estate.
The high quality of this 2015 Lamaione vintage is a reflection of the favourable weather conditions throughout the year.
Blend
100% Merlot.
Characteristics and tasting tips for Lamaione 2015 from Frescobaldi - Tenuta Castelgiocondo
Tasting
Colour
The colour is deep, going from a ruby red into purplish highlights.
Nose
The delicious bouquet, with an explosive aromatic palette, reflects the best Tuscan vintages. Though woodland fruit scents appears first (blueberry, cherry), mingling with roasted notes of chocolate and coffee, the nose finishes by presenting subtle notes of licorice and mint.
Palate
The attack is full and deep. The density of the tannins melt, throughout the tasting, into a supple and structured palate. Complex and delicious, the finish has a balance between a strong display of fruit and subtle balsamic notes.
