Description
A silky and refined Pauillac Second wine
The estate
The 5th Grand Cru Classé of Pauillac, Château Pédesclaux was founded by Urbain-Pierre Pédesclaux, a wine broker, in the early 19th century. The Lorenzetti family took over the running of the estate in 2009 and has elevated it to the highest level by equipping it with state-of-the-art infrastructures. 2014 saw the construction of a new gravity-fed cellar designed by the architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte. In 2018, Manon Lorenzetti took over the reins of the estate, injecting a dynamic energy into the property.
The vineyard
The Château Pédesclaux vineyard covers 52 hectares of vines that spread over 19 different Pauillac terroirs. Since 2019, the vineyard is in conversion to organic farming. The vineyard is managed by Vincent Bache-Gabrielsen, advised by the oenologist Éric Boissenot.
The wine
The estate’s second wine, this Fleur de Pédesclaux is made from grapes grown on a terroir composed of Garonne gravel upon a limestone base.
Vinification and ageing
The hand-picked grapes are rigorously sorted by hand on the bunches and then by grape. Gravity-fed vatting is followed by a light crushing. The pre-fermentation maceration is done cold. Gentle extraction is accompanied by délestage and pigeage. The vinification is carried out by gravity without the use of a pump in order to preserve the integrity of the fruit. The wine is aged for 12 months in oak barrels (30% new oak).
The blend
This Fleur de Pédesclaux 2019 is a blend of Merlot (67%), Cabernet Sauvignon (27%) and Petit Verdot (6%).
