Characteristics and tasting tips for Dragon de Quintus 2023
Tasting
Colour
The colour is of an intense dark red hue.
Nose
Discreet but seductive, the first nose precedes a fresh and fruity bouquet.
Palate
A smooth and fruity attack gives way to a lively, greedy palate, supported by a beautiful sapidity.
The freshness and fruitiness of a Second Wine from Saint-Émilion
The estate
The Château Quintus was born from the union of the terroirs of Château Tertre Daugay and Château L’Arrosée, acquired by the family company Domaine Clarence Dillon in 2011 and 2013 respectively. Château Quintus is thus the fifth property of the Domaine Clarence Dillon group, alongside Châteaux Haut-Brion and La Mission Haut-Brion. The estate takes its name from the Gallo-Roman tradition of naming one's fifth child Quintus.
The vineyard
Château Quintus is a Saint-Émilion wine from a 42-hectare vineyard, unique for its mosaic of terroirs. The vines, which are 30 years old on average, are planted on a succession of south-facing limestone strata on the plateau, as well as on clay-limestone and gravel soils exposed south to the north of the estate.
The wine
Dragon de Quintus is the Second Wine of Château Quintus.
The vintage
A mild winter, except in February marked by relative coolness, precedes a wet spring with cool nights. Despite these conditions, flowering is rapid and homogeneous. Almost tropical, the end of spring brings high sanitary pressure, controlled by the reactivity and know-how of the teams. The summer is cool before a hot and dry September ensuring optimal maturity and concentration of the berries.
Vinification and ageing
Careful sorting in the vineyard and in the winery to keep only the most qualitative grapes. Ageing in barrels (of which 25.3% are new).
Blend
Merlot (71.6%)
Cabernet Franc (28.4%).
