Description
The precision and freshness of a Saint-Emilion wine by Château Quintus
The estate
Château Quintus was born following the union of the Château Tertre Daugay and Château L'Arrosée terroirs, both acquired by Domaine Clarence Dillon, a family company, in 2011 and 2013. Château Quintus is thus the fifth property owned by the Domaine Clarence Dillon group, along with Châteaux Haut-Brion and La Mission Haut-Brion. The property’s name comes from the Gallo-Roman tradition of naming the fifth child Quintus.
The vineyard
Château Quintus 2016 is a Saint-Emilion wine that stems from a unique 28-hectare vineyard which enjoys a patchwork of terroirs. The vines, which are 30 years old on average, are planted on a plateau, on a succession of south-facing limestone strata, as well as on south-facing clay-limestone and gravel soils to the north of the property.
The vintage
Despite the coolness and the high rainfall during the winter and spring, flowering was homogenous. The great summer drought fortunately ended in mid-September with a rainy spell that was beneficial for the vineyard. The alternation between sunny days and cool nights during the month of October was an ideal way to refine the degree of ripeness and give birth to a rich in colour, fresh and fruity vintage.
The blend
Merlot (70%)
Cabernet Franc (30%).
