A Ribera del Duero wine of beautiful complexity
The property
Located north of Madrid in the province of Castile and Leon not far from the prestigious estate Vega Sicilia, Dominio de Pingus is one of the biggest names in Spain.
It was in 1995 that Danish oenologist Peter Sisseck founded Dominio de Pingus. Sensing the extraordinary potential of the Ribera del Duero region and guided by the ambition to produce a great wine reflecting the expression of its terroir, this renowned oenologist made a meticulous parcel selection of old tinto fino vines, the local name for the tempranillo grape, to elevate Dominio de Pingus to the rank of the most famous wine estates in the world.
The vineyard
The Dominio de Pingus vineyard is worked in a traditional way respecting the system of low vines "en vaso". The confidential production of Dominio de Pingus, with extremely low yields, ranging from 20 hl/ha to only 9 hl/ha, makes it one of the most sought-after wines of Castile-Leon in the world.
The wine
Resulting from a rigorous selection of 28 parcels, this cuvée comes from vines with an average age of 50 years, planted on 35 hectares of clay-limestone soils. Trained on stakes, these vines benefit from a planting density of 5,000 feet per hectare.
The vintage
Despite a hot and dry summer, the 2022 vintage gave birth to grapes of remarkable balance, harvested under ideal conditions. Peter Sisseck, who counts it among his favorite vintages, compares it to 2000 and 1996. He describes the wines as "delicious, of great precision, with a lot of freshness".
Vinification and aging
Vinified in 6,000-litre wooden vats, this wine benefits from aging in barrels, 20% of which are new wood, bringing complexity and elegance. Its aging continues until its bottling scheduled for June/July 2024.
Blend
Tempranillo (95%)
Grenache (5%).
