Description
A rich and complex Pommard Premier Cru
The estate
In the heart of the Côte de Beaune, Château de Meursault is one of the legendary Burgundian wine estates. Currently owned by the Halley family and enjoying a history of over 1000 years, Château de Meursault is a true Burgundian treasure. Château de Meursault watches over an exceptional vineyard in the Côte d'Or which spreads across 65 hectares of vines from Puligny-Montrachet to Aloxe-Corton.
The vineyard
A fine Pommard wine, the 1er Cru Clos Epenots by Château de Meursault is made from 5 plots of vines planted between 1948 and 1978. The vineyard comprises 3.6 hectares in total and the vines are planted on brown limestone soils. Warm and well-drained, these soils allow the grapes to ripen well.
Vinification and ageing
The grapes are sorted by hand in order to keep only the very best. A second optical sorting is carried out following destemming. The grapes are then vatted for 15 to 18 days. During the pre-fermentation cold maceration and the alcoholic fermentation, the musts undergo punching down and pumping over. The wine is aged for about 15 months in new barrels (30%) and in first or second-fill barrels (70%).
The blend
Pinot Noir (100%).
