Description
The typicality of a Sicilian red wine
The estate
The COS estate was founded in 1980 by three friends, students of architecture and medicine, who were passionate about wine. Originally from the province of Vittoria, they acquired an old estate, making them the youngest winemakers in the region. Today, COS is one of the most influential producers in Sicily and even in Italy. Giusto Occhipinti is the emblematic figure of COS. Along with his partner Giambattista Cilia, they focused on one wine in particular: Cerasuolo di Vittoria, an Italian wine made from a blend of Nero d'avola and Frappato.
The vineyard
The vineyard spreads over 37 hectares of vines and is poised between 230 and 270 metres above sea level. The Sirocco and the winds of the Hyblaean mountains sweep through this exceptional terroir composed of tufa, clay and sand. The climate of Vittoria gives the Nero d'Avola an extraordinary elegance, while the Frappato has great finesse. In 2000, COS decided to implement biodynamic farming to cultivate its vineyards with the aim of obtaining the purest wine possible.
The wine
Cos Frappato 2021 is a Sicilian wine made from vines that are around 15 years old, planted in the Vittoria production area on red sand and silt soil.
