Description
The complexity and refinement of a Saint-Émilion red wine
The estate
A prestigious reference of the Saint-Émilion appellation, the Clos des Jacobins takes its name in reference to the Benedictine preaching monks who welcomed pilgrims on the paths of St-Jacques de Compostelle. Since 2004, Clos des Jacobins has been owned by Thibaut and Magali Decoster.
The vineyard
Since the 17th century, the 8.5-hectare vineyard of this Grand Cru Classé is in one piece in the heart of the great terroirs of Saint-Émilion. Located at the foot of the slope and benefiting from an excellent southern exposure, the vines, which are 30 years old on average, are planted on a very large limestone terroir. The vineyard is managed using sustainable agriculture.
Vinification and ageing
The grapes are hand-picked and manually sorted. Maceration followed by vinification accompanied by punching down and racking. Malolactic fermentation in new barrels and wooden vats. Ageing for 14 months in oak barrels, 60% of which are new.
Blend
Merlot (80%), Cabernet Franc (18%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (2%).
