Description
The aromatic richness and balance of a red wine from Saint-Émilion, unveiled by Clos des Jacobins
The estate
The prestigious Clos des Jacobins from the Saint-Émilion appellation is named after the Benedictine preaching monks who welcomed pilgrims on the roads of St-Jacques de Compestelle. Since 2004, Clos des Jacobins has been owned by Thibaut and Magali Decoster.
The vineyard
Since the 18th century, this 8.3-hectare, Classified Great Growth vineyard is the only unsegmented vineyard at the heart of the great terroirs of Saint-Émilion. Situated at the foot of the hill and benefting from excellent south-facing exposure, the vines, aged 30 years on average, are planted on a very big limestone terroir. Sustainable agriculture is practiced at the vineyard.
The winemaking and ageing
Following manual harvests in crates, the grapes are subject to rigorous sorting. Vatting lasts for 30 days. Pour-overs and offloading precede malolactic fermentation in new barrels. Ageing lasts for 18 months in barrels (of which 75% are new).
Blend
Clos des Jacobins 2020 is made of a blend of Merlot (80%), Cabernet Franc (18%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (2%).
