Description
A sophisticated red wine from Saint-Julien with a beautiful structure
The estate
One of the Henri Martin estates, Château Saint-Pierre is a 4th Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Julien. Under the leadership of the dynamic Henri Martin, the Château Saint-Pierre vineyard is being restored to its original 1855 glory. This property is now one of the most famous references of this iconic appellation.
The vineyard
Château Saint-Pierre produces Saint-Julien wines from a vineyard that extends over 17 hectares. Enjoying the ISO 140001 and HVE 3 (High Environmental Value) certifications, the Henri Martin estates, including Château Saint-Pierre, are cultivated with sustainable methods, using organic and bio-control products.
The wine
2021 is the estate’s first vintage to be converted to organic and biodynamic practices.
The vintage
The mild and cool winter favoured an early bud break. Although the vineyard was spared frost, thanks to its proximity to the estuary and the quality of its terroir, the conditions during spring and summer were marked by little sunshine and a lot of rainfall. The teams’ diligence enabled the vineyard to preserve its healthy condition. The mild weather in September and October and the wide temperature variations between day and night were beneficial for the vineyard.
Vinification and ageing
The wine is aged in barrels with a proportion of 55% new wood.
The blend
Cabernet Sauvignon (70%)
Merlot (14%)
Cabernet Franc (9%)
Petit Verdot (7%).
