Description
The signature style of a Saint-Julien red wine
The estate
One of the Henri Martin estates, Château Saint-Pierre is a 4th Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Julien. Under the leadership of the dynamic Henri Martin, the Château Saint-Pierre vineyard is being restored to its original 1855 glory. This property is now one of the most famous Grands Crus Classés of this iconic appellation.
The vineyard
Located in the Saint-Julien AOC, on the left bank of Bordeaux, Château Saint-Pierre covers 17 hectares of vines. Enjoying the ISO 140001 and HVE (High Environmental Value) 3 certifications, the Henri Martin estates, including Château Saint-Pierre, are cultivated with sustainable methods, using organic and bio-control products.
The vintage
2020 began with a mild winter, which incited an early bud break. Spring was marked by significant rainfall, as was the month of May, where the mildness allowed for an equally early flowering. The summer conditions, which were hot and dry, generated significant water stress, which slowed down ripening and delayed the start of the harvests. Despite the random yields depending on the plot, rigorous vineyard management, combined with plot-based vinification, made 2020 a vintage of exceptional quality.
Winemaking and ageing
Vatting lasts for 18 to 23 days. Ageing occurs in barrels, 50% of which are new wood.
Blend
The 2020 Château Saint-Pierre is made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (79%), Merlot (15%) and Cabernet Franc (6%).
