A subtle and elegant Margaux magnified by a delicate vintage
The property
In the heart of the prestigious Margaux vineyard, Château Rauzan-Ségla has been a major reference for the appellation for more than three centuries. Classified Second Grand Cru in 1855, it embodies the elegance and finesse typical of the great wines of Margaux. This jewel of the left bank seduces with its exceptional terroir, where the diversity of soils gives the wines a unique structure, combining delicacy, aromatic intensity and great aging potential. Today carried by Maison Chanel, Rauzan-Ségla brilliantly combines Bordeaux heritage and contemporary excellence.
The vineyard
What makes Rauzan-Ségla unique is the exceptional richness of its terroir in Margaux. A true signature of the estate, this geological mosaic is divided into three major families of soils, each contributing to the complexity of the wines. Among them, the clay-limestone soils stand out particularly: their composition gives the wines intensity, structure and volume, constituting the backbone of the blends.
The vintage
The year 2013 was marked by particularly difficult climatic conditions. The winter was especially cold, followed by a wet and not very sunny spring. The summer, although hot, was punctuated by storms, while the autumn was heterogeneous. These conditions led to late harvests, with the merlot harvested between September 30 and October 7, followed by the cabernet franc on October 5, the petit verdot on October 6 and the cabernet sauvignon between October 8 and 14.
Vinification and aging
The vinification of Château Rauzan-Ségla 2013 is carried out plot by plot, with gravity filling into thermoregulated stainless steel vats. After fermentation, the wine is aged for 18 months in French oak barrels with medium and medium-long toast, 60% of which is new wood.
Grapes
Château Rauzan-Ségla is made from a traditional blend dominated by cabernet sauvignon.
