Description

A silky and elegant Margaux wine

The estate

Château Palmer is a star in the Margaux appellation, on the left bank of the Bordeaux region. After having built its legendary story on vintages that have become mythical, Château Palmer continues to write its history under the direction and guidance of the talented Thomas Duroux.

The vineyard

Benefiting from an exceptional terroir located in the immediate vicinity of the Gironde estuary, Château Palmer comprises an unusual grape composition in the Médoc, with a strong emphasis on the Merlot variety, which appears alongside Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot.

The vintage

A hot and dry year, 2006 was marked by shifting weather conditions. The late budburst at the end of March preceded a flowering that was carried out under fine and cool weather. From mid-June to the end of July, a peak of high temperatures, fortunately punctuated by short stormy rainfall, led to an early veraison. The weather changed abruptly in August with cool, rainy conditions that slowed down ripening and maintained significant disease pressure. The vigilance and work in the vineyard carried out by the château's teams were decisive. The end of August saw the return of the heatwave and the acceleration of the ripening process, but at the same time weakened the grapes’ skins. This was followed by a cool, rainy period during which a rigorous decision was made to harvest each plot at the most important time. Despite the climatic instability throughout the year, 2006 is a vintage that harmoniously blends richness and powerful tannins with utter elegance, subtlety and depth.
