Description

The smoothness and aromatic palette of an Haut-Médoc red wine

The estate

Located in the Haut-Médoc appellation, between Margaux and Saint Julien, Château Malescasse is situated on the highest point of the Médoc. The property was acquired in 2012 by Vignobles Austruy with the ambition of bringing out all the the potential of this estate, through important works both in the vineyard and in the cellars. Since the new classification of the Crus Bourgeois in 2020, Château Malescasse has been promoted to Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel.

The vineyard

Château Malescasse 2022 is an Haut-Médoc wine made from a 40-hectare single vineyard planted on quaternary gravel and sandy soils typical of the Médoc.

The vintage

The year 2022 was marked by a hot and sunny summer, which had no impact on the vineyard thanks to the rainfall recorded in June and mid-August. The grapes were ripe and healthy at the time of the harvest, which took place from 16 September to 10 October.

Winemaking and ageing

Following the harvest in crates, the grapes are destemmed. The berries are sorted by density. The unpressed grapes are vatted by gravity in small wooden and concrete vats. No crushing. Use of active dry yeast. Vatting time of 3 to 4 weeks. Gentle extraction with short punching of the cap and pumping over. Pressing with a vertical pneumatic press. Aged for 12 months in 225 and 300 litre French oak barrels, of which 1/3 are new, 1/3 are 1 year old and 1/3 are 2 years old.

Blend

Cabernet Sauvignon (57%)
Merlot (43%).
