Description

Margaux: An aromatic and beautifully fresh Second Grand Cru Classé

The producer

Bearing the name Chevalier Antoine de Lascombes since the 17th century, Château Lascombes is marked by the footprints of ten generations of owners who shaped the history of the Château. The MACSF mutualist insurance group have been the owners since 2011. Château Lascombes wines are known as being among the greatest Margaux appellation wines.

The vineyard

Second Grand Cru Classé since 1855, 120 hectares in the Margaux appellation and 10 hectares in the Haut-Médoc appellation make up the vineyard.

This vineyard is planted on a patchwork of plots of land whose soils are composed, depending on their location, gravelly hilltop, clayey gravel and clay-limestone plots. The vineyard of Château Lascombes stands out compared to other Margaux crus as it is mainly composed of Merlot, followed by Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot.

The vinification and ageing

The grapes are harvested by hand, sorted and destemmed. A light crushing is carried out before vatting. The pre-fermentation maceration lasts 10 days at 8°C. Alcoholic fermentation is followed by a classic vinification with light daily pumping over to favour the extraction. Following malolactic fermentation in barrels, the wine is aged on lees for 4 months.

The blend

Château Lascombes 2016 comprises a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 47% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot.

The tasting

Colour

The wine shows off an impressive depth.

Nose

Elegant and balanced, this wine seduces with its aromatic richness (blackberry, coffee, ripe red berries, liquorice, mocha, spices and cardamom).

Palate

Round and dense, the palate seduces with its tension and minerality. The delicious palate mixes notes of fresh blackberry, blackcurrant, raspberry and red berries (redcurrant) with toasted aromas, as well as fragrances of chocolate and mocha.

Service

For an optimal tasting experience, serve at 17°C.

Storage

In order to express its full aromatic complexity, Château Lascombes 2016 can be stored until 2039.
