Characteristics and tasting advice for Château La Tour Carnet 2024

Tasting

Color
Clear and bright, the color is adorned with seductive violet reflections, a testament to its youth.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet reveals notes of fresh red fruits that gradually evolve into more complex nuances of spices and tobacco.

Palate
The attack on the palate is precise and perfectly balanced. The tannic structure develops harmoniously, leading to a very fine and gourmet finish.

Food and wine pairings

This Haut-Médoc will pair perfectly with grilled red meats, duck breast, or even slow-cooked dishes like beef bourguignon. Hard, mature cheeses like Comté or Beaufort will also make an excellent accompaniment.

Service and aging

To fully appreciate the qualities of Château La Tour Carnet 2024, serve it between 16 and 18°C after an hour of aeration in a decanter. Although already enjoyable in its youth, this wine can be kept until around 2040, gaining in complexity with the years.

The structure and richness of a Haut-Médoc wine

The property

Dating back to the 12th century, the Château La Tour Carnet is among the oldest properties in the Médoc. Its name refers to the medieval tower, built in 1120 and surrounded by moats, which constitutes the historical heart of the estate. The cultivation of the vine began there as early as 1407. Today owned by Bernard Magrez, the château was consecrated as a Classified Growth during the official classification of 1855.

The vineyard

The 234 hectares of vines of Château La Tour Carnet benefit from an exceptional terroir of the Haut-Médoc. The vines, with an average age of 25 years, indeed rest on clay-limestone soils covered with a thick layer of Günzian gravel.

The vintage

The year 2024 began with a mild and wet winter, followed by a cool spring with an excess of water in May. The summer proved to be rather cool, influencing the vegetative cycle of the vine.

Vinification and aging

Careful aging divided between 60% in barrels (half in new wood and the other half in one-wine wood) and 40% in stainless steel, wood and cement tanks.

Blend

Merlot (63%), Cabernet Sauvignon (33%), Petit Verdot (3%) and a touch of Cabernet Franc (1%).
