Description

The freshness and richness of a Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classé

The estate

The history of Château La Marzelle began in the 17th century. Today, this Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classé produces fine wines that typically reflect the appellation.

The vineyard

The Château La Marzelle single-block vineyard covers 14.95 hectares on the Isle, also known as the "Haute Terrasse de Saint-Émilion". The vines are 30 years old on average and are planted on soils composed of ancient sands, deep gravels and blue clays. They give rise to fine Saint-Emilion wines.

The vintage

A mild, wet winter favoured an early, even budburst. A month of April marked by several frosts that impacted the vineyard in certain areas preceded a cold and dry spring until the end of April, followed by rainy weather in May. Although flowering was carried out in good conditions, mildew pressure caused by stormy weather between mid-June and mid-July was significant. The mild weather in August ensured that there was little water stress until the harvest, which began on September 30th and ended on October 13th.

Vinification and ageing

Following the harvest, the grapes are rigorously sorted using a densimetric sorter and based on their size. The wine is vinified by parcel with great precision in stainless steel truncated cone-shaped vats, 500-litre barrels and amphorae.

The blend

Merlot (75%)
Cabernet Franc (17%)
Cabernet Sauvignon (8%).
