The producer

Beautifully located on the left bank of Bordeaux, Château La Lagune is one of the finest references in the Haut-Médoc appellation. Since 2004, Caroline Frey has been lending her talent in order to elevate Château La Lagune to the very top.

The vineyard

Château La Lagune produces fine Haut-Médoc wines from an 80-hectare vineyard that is poised on a gravelly hilltop. The vineyards are managed according to organic and biodynamic practices.

The vintage

A mild and dry autumn in 2015 gave way to a mild winter with plenty of rainfall, which replenished the water reserves. These conditions favoured an early budburst from the beginning of March. Spring began with cold and wet weather and was marked by frosts which did not affect the estate's vineyards. The heavy rainfall in May slowed down the flowering stage, which was reached by mid-June. The temporary cessation of rainfall encouraged an even fruit set.

Conditions improved from the 20th of June onwards. The rise in temperature, combined with significant water reserves in the soil, led to the rapid development of the grapes. From the end of June until the 15th of July, significant downy mildew pressure was noted. The lack of rainfall during the summer months led to severe water stress in some plots and thus delaying veraison. The wide temperature variations between day and night were ideal, refining the maturity of the vineyard and improving the aromatic potential of the grapes. The rainy spell on the 13th of September was beneficial and boosted the development of the vineyard. During the harvest, the vineyard was in a perfect state of health. The concentrated and rich grapes were harvested in a plot-by-plot manner in order to ensure optimal ripeness.
