Description

The freshness and aromatic palette of a Graves white wine

The estate

Established in 1966, Château de Chantegrive is part of the Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux. Certified HVE level 3, this family-owned estate manages its vineyard with the utmost passion and precision in order to produce fine Graves wines.

The vineyard

The vineyard that provided the grapes for Château de Chantegrive's 2021 "Caroline" vintage, the estate's white wine, spreads over 15 hectares of vines and rests on gravel, pebbles, fine sand and clay-limestone soils.

The vintage

The year 2021 is marked by a summer whose cool conditions without the occurrence of heatwaves led to an optimal ripening process. Showcasing a great precision, this vintage is marked by its liveliness and freshness.

Vinification and ageing

The hand-picked grapes are sorted twice on a table. Pneumatic pressing under nitrogen followed by a rigorous selection of the juice. Static cold settling for 24 hours is followed by fermentation in barrels and on fine lees (50% new barrels), along with ageing for 9 months, with regular stirring of the lees.

The blend

Sauvignon Blanc (56%)

Semillon (40%)

Sauvignon Gris (4%).

Château de Chantegrive’s "Caroline" 2021: Characteristics and tasting tips

The tasting

Colour

A beautiful pale yellow colour with subtle green highlights.

Nose

The nose combines fragrances of citrus fruit and white peach.

Palate

A lively attack precedes a palate that blends aromas of lemon, pink grapefruit and passion fruit. The finish is persistent and seduces the palate with its mineral elements, its powerful expression and its roundness due to its time spent on lees.
