Description

A perfectly balanced and legendary Châteauneuf-Du-Pape wine

The estate

An emblematic figure in the Rhône Valley who was at the helm of the Perrin family's estates until 1978 and the iconic Château de Beaucastel, Jacques Perrin has established himself as a free-spirited and visionary figure in the wine world. A pioneer, he initiated organic farming practices in the 1960s and biodynamic farming methods in 1974. He also decided to revive the cultivation of Mourvèdre, the iconic Rhone varietal. With a unique style and an extraordinary signature taste, the Hommage à Jacques Perrin cuvée embodies the perfect marriage between the terroir and the grape variety, reflecting the very definition of a Grand Vin and an expression that Jacques Perrin greatly sought.

The wine

A legendary Châteauneuf-du-Pape wine, Château de Beaucastel's Hommage à Jacques Perrin is one of the world's finest wines. It brilliantly embodies the credo of the Perrin family: "A Grand Vin is emotion and civilisation, a myth that endures beyond time". The first vintage of this prestigious wine was produced in 1989. Produced in very limited quantities, the Hommage à Jacques Perrin wine stems from a unique terroir. On an exceptional vineyard, the soil is composed of rolled pebbles that rest on clay-limestone and silt soils and is located on the northern fringe of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, in the Rhône Valley.

The vintage

A mild and very rainy winter preceded a spring with hot and dry conditions that favoured a beautiful flowering period. The summer was marked by alternating rainy episodes and sunny days. Confronted by this high level of humidity, the estate's teams redoubled their efforts to prevent diseases and to maintain the vineyard's healthy state, thus avoiding the risk of water stress. The veraison period was even. From the beginning of September, an Indian summer set in and provided ideal weather conditions that refined the ripening process. The vineyard’s health was excellent and the grapes were harvested at full ripeness, promising a high quality vintage.

The blend

This Hommage à Jacques Perrin 2014 by Château de Beaucastel comprises a high proportion of Mourvèdre.

The blend

Colour

Brilliant, with a beautiful ruby colour.

Nose

The nose reveals an intense fruity expression.

Palate

Exuding a perfectly harmonious and powerful expression, the palate is seduced by this wine’s roundness and its amplitude. This wine coats the palate with delicious sensations that enhance the finesse of the melted and elegant tannins. The acidity of the fruit beautifully balances the sapid smoothness. A true credit to its vintage, the 2014 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Hommage à Jacques Perrin follows in the footsteps of the great classics (2001, 2020 and 2012) that have made Châteauneuf-du-Pape a legend.
