Description

A Great Tuscan Wine’s Refinement and Complexity

Coevo is a very special wine for the Cecchi estate and family. Andrea and Cesare, who are 4th generation winemakers, wanted to create a special wine to mark a historical turning point for the estate.

Coevo is therefore a symbol that represents legacy with an anchor in the present moment and yet it is also a guide for the future. It is a wine that transgresses time. It also symbolises the meeting of two significant areas of the Tuscany region in Italy: Chianti Classico and Maremma. Coevo is based on one simple philosophy: consistency and impeccable quality for each vintage.

Produced in the Toscana IGT appellation, the Cecchi estate’s Coevo 2010 is a blend of 50% Sangiovese, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 10% Petit Verdot. The grapes come from the best vineyards for Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon that are located near Castellina in Chianti in alkaline soils. The Petit Verdot and Merlot are grown in Maremma in sandy soils rich in quartz. Each grape has its own expression, depending on its terroir.

The grapes are hand-harvested and then vinified separately. The 4 varieties for the 2011 Coevo are matured in barrels for 18 months. After, they are blended together and then aged in barrels again for an additional 3 months.

The Coevo 2011 is an excellent vintage. There is an aromatic bouquet that expresses the fresh fruit of each variety. The Cabernet Sauvignon has depth and intensity with notes of black fruit and licorice. On the palate, the Merlot comes through with its typical round, full mouthfeel while the Petit Verdot brings a touch of spice. This is a wine with great aromatic intensity and rare complexity. It can be enjoyed now or kept until 2022.
