Description

The balance and aromatic finesse of a Chianti Classico from Tuscany

The estate

Nestled at 500 metres of altitude, the Castello di Ama estate bears witness to a rich historical heritage – the small village of Ama, was already reputed more than five centuries ago for its agricultural activity and its production of Tuscan wines.

The story began in 1970, when a group of families, enchanted by the site’s charm, founded this winegrowing estate with the ambition of producing a Chianti Classico which would reflect the excellence of Italian wines beyond borders.

The vineyard

Directed by Lorenza Sebasti and Marco Palanti, a renowned oenologist, the Castello di Ama estate overlooks a vineyard which covers nearly 80 hectares around the village of Ama.

The vintage

2020 began with particularly low temperatures, followed by a cold and rainy spring. These conditions impacted flowering, which was heterogeneous and consequently lowered the yields.

The vinification and ageing

Manual harvests. Fermentation begins with ambient yeasts. Separate vinification by grape variety. Manual pumping. Vatting for 25 days. Malolactic fermentation in barrels followed by blending, then a new phase of ageing in fine-grained barrels.

The blend

Ama 2019 by Castello di Ama is a mostly Sangiovese wine (96%) with Merlot (4%).

The tasting

Colour

The wine is a beautiful ruby colour, with hints of vermilion.

Nose

The fruity nose mixes fragrances of cherry and raspberry.

Palate

The greatly elegant palate seduces with its harmony, balance and spicy notes.
