Description
The refinement and intensity of a fine Tuscan red wine
The estate
A family-run vineyard, Castello Banfi has become a reference among fine Tuscan wines over the years. Renowned for their great Italian wines, the Banfi family pays great attention to its vineyards, as shown by the pioneering research carried out since 1982 into cloning the Sangiovese grape variety, always with the aim of producing an exceptional Brunello di Montalcino.
The vineyard
Produced since 1985 only in great vintages, Castello Banfi's Brunello di Montalcino Poggio all'Oro Riserva is a Tuscan wine made from vineyards with soils composed of brown clayey sediments and limestone stones and pebbles for an optimal drainage.
The vintage
Although the mild winter favoured an early budburst, the vegetative cycle was slowed down by a cool, wet spring. Temperatures gradually rose from mid-June to the end of July. During August, the pleasant temperature variations between day and night enabled the grapes to perfect their ripeness levels. September was hot, punctuated by four days of heavy rainfall which, thanks to the rigour of the teams, did not impact the vineyard.
Vinification and ageing
Vinification in stainless steel vats and French oak barrels. The wine is aged for a minimum of 30 months in different-sized French oak barrels.
The blend
Sangiovese (100%).
