The estate
Founded in 1968 following the merger of 5 estates, Castellare di Castellina produces some of the finest Italian wines. Renowned for their quality, the estate's wines derive their uniqueness both from their exceptional terroir and from their label, whose bird represents the estate's deep respect for its surrounding nature.
The vineyard
Located in the heart of the Chianti region, the vineyard spreads across 80 hectares, near the small village of Castellina.
Poised atop a natural amphitheatre, this terroir, resting on clay-limestone soils, produces full-bodied, powerful Tuscan wines that boast a great ageing potential.
The wine
Produced since 1999, Poggio ai Merli by Castellare di Castellina is made from vines located between 350 and 400 metres above sea level. Since its very first vintage, this wine has been renowned for its excellence and unique elegance.
Vinification and ageing
Poggio ai Merli 2019 by Castellare di Castellina is vinified in thermo-regulated steel tanks. The wine is aged exclusively in French oak barrels (1/3 new barrels) for 15 to 30 months. Bottling is followed by an additional 12 months of ageing before being released onto the market.
