Description
Elegant and complex, a seductive Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru white wine
The estate
The Bouchard Père & Fils estate was founded in Beaune in 1731. With almost three centuries of history, Bouchard Père & Fils is one of the oldest estates in Burgundy. At the head of an exceptional estate in the Côte d'Or, the family’s 9th generation still perpetuates their unique know-how in the art of making fine Burgundian wines.
Built up over the years, the vineyards of Bouchard Père et Fils estate now spread across 130 hectares of vines. Combining prestigious Burgundian appellations and exceptional plots, the Bouchard Père & Fils vineyard owns a truly unique wine heritage.
The vineyard
This Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru Domaine 2020 de Bouchard Père & Fils stems from a 2.33-hectare eastern / south-eastern facing vineyard that rests on marl and limestone soils with a stony subsoil.
Legend states that the Lord of Montrachet split his land between his two sons. One of his sons became a knight during the Crusades and the other, illegitimate, from which the name of the Bâtard-Montrachet vineyard is derived.
Following the purchasing of numerous plots of land throughout the 19th century, the Bouchard family became the main owners of Chevalier-Montrachet, but above all the only estate with plots on the four terraces that make up the appellation. The array of terroirs, soils and sun exposures result in fine Chevalier-Montrachet wines.
The vinification and ageing
The grapes are harvested by hand and are rigorously sorted before vinification. Pressing is carried out in two stages, evacuating the first juices followed by a 2-hour cyclical pressing. Aged for 12 to 13 months in French oak barrels (up to 15% new barrels depending on the vintage) in the Bastion cellars of the historic Château de Beaune.
