Description
The finesse and aromatic intensity of a Beaune red wine
The estate
The Bouchard Père & Fils estate was founded in Beaune in 1731. With almost three centuries of history, Bouchard Père & Fils is one of the oldest estates in Burgundy. At the head of an exceptional estate in the Côte d'Or, the family’s 9th generation still perpetuates their unique know-how in the art of making fine Burgundian wines.
Built up over the years, the vineyards of Bouchard Père et Fils estate now spread across 130 hectares of vines. Combining prestigious Burgundian appellations and exceptional plots, the Bouchard Père & Fils vineyard owns a truly unique wine heritage.
The vineyard
The name of this Beaune 1er cru wine "Grèves Vigne de L'Enfant Jésus" Domaine 2020 by Bouchard Père & Fils refers to a historical anecdote linked to the Carmelite, Marguerite du Saint-Sacrement. Indeed, she is said to have predicted the birth of the future King of France despite the infertility of his mother, Anne of Austria. This vineyard was named "Vigne de L'Enfant Jésus" following the birth of Louis XIV. Sold in 1791 during the sale of national assets, this 3.92-hectare plot of land, facing east/south-east on very gravelly clay-limestone soil, has since been the monopoly of the Bouchard Père & Fil estate.
The vinification and ageing
The hand-picked grapes are rigorously sorted and totally or partially destemmed depending on the vintage. Fermentation in small containers. Soft pressing. Vatting for 12 to 15 days. The wine is aged for 8 to 13 months in French oak barrels (20 to 60% of which are new) in the Bastions cellars of the historic Château de Beaune.
