Description
An alluringly concentrated and balanced Saint-Aubin white wine
The estate
The daughter of one of the greatest wine-producing families in Burgundy, Francine Picard took over the estate historically held by her father at the end of the 1990s. The Au Pied du Mont Chauve estate extends over the communes of Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet and Saint-Aubin, in the heart of the most beautiful climates and terroirs of winegrowing Burgundy.
With the ambition to keep a synergy between the land and the wines, Francine Picard cultivates her plots of land in accordance with the principles of biodynamics and applies herself with passion and extreme care to produce wines that reflect the identity of their terroir.
From a vineyard of 110 hectares worked in "agro-ecology", the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir of the Domaine Au Pied du Mont Chauve are recognised for their quality, their precision and their elegance.
Since May 2019, Antoine Lepetit de la Bigne, a specialist in biodynamic viticulture, has joined the team of this illustrious Burgundian estate as Technical Director.
The vineyard
Au Pied du Mont Chauve's "Le Charmois" 2022 is a Saint-Aubin Premier Cru wine made from a plot on the hillside above the village of Chassagne-Montrachet. Located at an altitude of 250 metres, the vines are over 50 years old and lie on thin, chalky, east-facing soils.
The vintage
The beginning of 2022 in Burgundy was marked by a frost in April, impacting a vineyard partially protected by a late budburst. Subsequently, the vines faced a particularly hot and dry summer. In spite of these extreme conditions, 2022 reveals a qualitative and generous vintage producing wines with a concentration and balance mixed with a delicate alliance between suppleness and complexity.
Winemaking and ageing
Harvested by hand, the grapes are were meticulously sorted on a table before being completely destemmed. Settling in stainless steel vats for one night, then transfer to barrels for alcoholic fermentation. The wine was aged for 18 months on its lees, including 10 months in Burgundy barrels and tuns.
Blend
Saint-Aubin Premier Cru "Le Charmois" 2022 from Au Pied du Mont Chauve is 100% Chardonnay.
