Description
Emmerich Knoll reveals a fine Austrian Riesling that blends precision and refinement
The estate
Weingut Emmerich Knoll is located in the Wachau region of north-eastern Austria.
The vineyard
The vines are 25 years old on average and are situated at an altitude of 240 metres. The vines rest on a soil composed mainly of rock containing quartz (gneiss) and a little calcareous silt (loess).
The wine
Produced within the Wachau appellation, this wine is labelled "Smaragd". According to the designation introduced by the local winegrowers' association in 1984, this denotes a full-bodied, complex wine.
Vinification and ageing
The grapes are harvested by hand and pressed whole. Fermentation is carried out in stainless steel vats and tuns for ten to twenty days. The wine is aged for three months on the lees without stirring.
