Description
The elegance and aromatic richness of a fine Chilean wine from Central Valley
The estate
The Chadwick family has been perpetuating its passion for the production of fine Chilean wines since 1870, when Don Maximiano Errázuriz created Viña Errázuiz in the Aconcagua Valley.
Located in Puente Alto D.O. within the Maipo Valley, Viñedo Chadwick honours the memory of Don Alfonso Chadwick Errázuiz, the father of Eduardo Chadwick. Passionate and visionary, Alfonso Chadwick Errázuiz created Chile’s first wine brokerage house in the 1930s and, in 1942, acquired nearly 300 hectares of fields and vineyards with the ambition to modernise the production of Chilean wines and to actively participate in the development of their reputation. Having taken over Viña Errázuiz in 1983, Don Alfonso Chadwick Errázuiz was joined by his son, Eduardo, who has continued the quest for excellence and the familial passion for the production of fine Central Valley wines after the death of his father in 1993.
Don Alfonso Chadwick Errázuiz was also known as one of the best polo players in the history of Chile. He was passionate about this sport and even had his own polo field built on the family estate, two goalposts from which are still on this site, now a plot producing exceptional wines in honour of Don Alfonso Chadwick Errázuiz.
Viñedo Chadwick overlooks a 15-hectare vineyard of Cabernet Sauvignon planted in 1992, giving rise to wines produced in limited quantities with a refinement, freshness and elegance that are internationally recognised. During the iconic "Berlin Tasting" in 2004, the Chadwick Vineyard 2000, the estate’s second vintage, was ranked first, ahead of the Italian Super Tuscans and the Premier and Grand Crus from Bordeaux. In May 2016, Viñedo Chadwick 2014 was given 100/100 by the critic, James Suckling.
The vintage
A particularly dry winter preceded a hot summer, promoting an optimal development of the crop cycle. The summer period was marked by moderately hot conditions. The vines’ vitality was coupled with good leaf coverage, ensuring that the grapes were protected. The cool temperatures in March were perfect and ensured that the grapes ripened gently and over a lengthy period, thus conserving the tannins’ acidity, aromatic richness and delicacy. The harvests began on 15 March and gave rise to a wine marked by finesse and elegance, with an acidity and complexity that mixed with great purity and a significant ageing potential.
Blend
Viñedo Chadwick 2019 is made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (97%) and Petit Verdot (3%).
Winemaking and ageing
Viñedo Chadwick 2019 enjoys a 22-month ageing process in new French oak barrels (75%) and in tuns (25%).
