The estate
Since its acquisition by the Álvares family in 1982, Vega Sicilia has continued to grow and establish its international reputation. Today, an ongoing quest for excellence, a beautiful harmony with nature, and unfailing rigour and dedication have made this Spanish estate a benchmark of prestige. Over the years, other wineries like Pintia have come to embrace and magnify the Vega Sicilia philosophy. The extreme care taken in the vineyards and during the winemaking process is the hallmark of great Spanish wines from unique lands.
The wine
Bodega Pintia joined the Vega Sicilia estate in 2001, after a long process of replanting the vineyards and modernising the infrastructure.
Vega Sicilia's Pintia explores the terroirs of the Toro, an area with a long tradition of winegrowing close to the Douro river. The vineyard is divided into several parcels covering 96 hectares, at an altitude of 700 metres, on soils composed of clay, quartz and pebbles.
The continental climate is extreme, with hot, arid summers followed by very cold winters. These conditions ensure that the grapes are exceptionally healthy and the flavours are of the highest quality.
The vines, which are around 35 years old, are cultivated using sustainable methods with the greatest care.
Vinification and ageing
The vinification for this vintage was based more on infusion than extraction. Cold maceration for 5 days before fermentation in oak barrels. 15% of the wine was matured in large containers to preserve the purity and freshness of the fruit.
Blend
100% Tinto de Toro, a local Tempranillo variety.
