An exceptional Alsatian pinot noir from biodynamic viticulture
The property
The Domaine Valentin Zusslin, founded in 1691 in Orschwihr in Alsace, is managed by Marie and Jean-Paul Zusslin, representing the 13th generation. With 18 hectares of vines cultivated biodynamically since 1997, the estate stands out for its monopoly of the Clos Liebenberg, a unique high-altitude terroir. Viticultural practices include animal traction and minimalist winemaking, aiming to express the purity of the terroirs.
The vineyard
The Pinot Noir "Bollenberg Harmonie" comes from an exceptional terroir of the Alsace appellation, characterized by ferruginous clay soils on Jurassic limestone. This particular geological composition gives the wine its distinctive minerality and structure. The Bollenberg, a sunny and well-exposed hillside, offers ideal conditions for the optimal maturation of pinot noir, allowing for wines of character combining concentration and finesse.
Vinification and aging
The Pinot Noir "Bollenberg Harmonie" benefits from a rigorous selection of grapes through three successive sortings. The bunches are harvested in small 20kg crates and then manually sorted upon their arrival in the cellar. After complete destemming and a third sorting by blower system, the wine undergoes a two-week skin maceration with three daily manual punch-downs. The aging continues in 228-liter barrels for at least 15 months.
