The estate

In 1992, the young Thierry Germain left his native Bordeaux to settle in the Anjou region. He took over the Roches Neuves estate, founded in 1850 and established in Varrains, near Saumur, in the Loire. Regarded as one of the greatest winemakers of his generation, Thierry Germain produces plot-based wines that reflect, with utter precision, the identity of the grape varieties grown on the estate and Anjou's chalky, tufa and sandy-clay soils.

The Thierry Germain - Domaine des Roches Neuves terroir currently spreads across 23 hectares of vines that are managed using organic and biodynamic methods and are certified by Ecocert and Biodyvin. The soils are worked using a horse and grass cover crops are used in the vineyard.

The vineyard

Thierry Germain's Insolite 2021 by Domaine des Roches Neuves is a Saumur wine made from vineyards located in the villages of Les Cerpes and Saint-Vincent. The vines are planted on clay-limestone soils and comprise silt and flint.

Vinifiation and ageing

The hand-picked grapes undergo alcoholic fermentation in tuns and barrels. Pneumatic pressing for 4 hours. Aged for nine months on fine lees.

The tasting

Colour

Bright and brilliant, this wine is a beautiful straw yellow colour.

Nose

Concentrated and powerful, the nose blends fruity, floral and vegetal fragrances with a beautiful freshness. When aerated, notes of white fruit (pear, peach), citrus fruit (lemon, grapefruit, etc.), verbena and lime tree emerge.

Palate

A precise and smooth attack leads to a palate whose subtle acidity is combined with a rich aromatic expression. Aromas of gentian flowers and ginger are sustained by a lively and dense palate.
