Nestled on the steep slopes of Mosel in Germany, the Dr. Loosen estate has been in the same family for over 200 years. After studying archeology, Ernest Loosen decided to take over the family business. Trained in oenology, he traveled the world from Austria to Burgundy, Alsace and California before dedicating himself fully to the Dr Loosen estate in 1988.
The Dr Loosen estate today covers just over 20 hectares with an average annual production of 200,000 bottles. With the arrival of Ernest Loosen, the Dr Loosen estate became part of the VDP, the prestigious German association of Prädikatswein Classified Quality Estates, established in 1971. This category comprises only 200 producers, who comply with much stricter standards than the regulation of standard German wines.
The estate pursues a single philosophy: the production of delicious wines, which express the typicity and authenticity of their terroir of origin.
The Dr Loosen estate boasts an exceptional wine heritage, with vines over 100 years old, and legendary classified parcels, such as Bernkasteler Lay, Erdener Prälat, Erdener Treppchen, Graacher Himmelreich, Ürziger Würzgarten and Wehlener Sonnenuhr. Unanimously acclaimed by international critics, Dr. Loosen produces some of the greatest Riesling wines in the world.
