Description

A white Saint-Joseph that combines freshness with exotic fruit

The estate

Passionate about wine, Pierre-Jean Villa began his career by marketing Burgundy wines and then, from 1992, managed the production and marketing of major Burgundy estates such as Mommessin and Clos de Tart. In 2003, he joined the Vins de Vienne estate in the Rhône Valley, a venture launched in 1996 by Yves Cuilleron, Pierre Gaillard and François Villard. In 2009, Pierre-Jean Villa created his own estate in the heart of his native town, Chavanay, on the steep terraces of Saint-Joseph and Condrieu, with the ambition of producing great wines expressing the richness of these terroirs with authenticity and accuracy, along with winemaker ethics. The wines produced by Pierre-Jean Villa, "one of the most gifted winemakers of his generation" according to Bettane & Desseauve, are recognised for their freshness, their delicacy, their finesse and their extreme precision.

The vineyard

The vineyard stretches across a total area of 17 hectares on either side of the Rhône, in the benchmark appellations of Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, Saint-Joseph, Crozes-Hermitage and the hillsides of Seyssuel. The vines are 30 years old on average.

The wine

The Saut de l'Ange cuvée takes its name from its geographical location ; it stems from a plot planted on the edge of a cliff on the estate. This white Saint-Joseph is made from vines that have grown on schist and granite soils.

Winemaking and ageing

The whole harvest was poured directly into the press, case by case. The must was settled at a low temperature for 12 to 24 hours and then vinified in 600 litre demi-muids with temperature control. The wine was aged for 12 months in 600 litre demi-muids.

Blend

100% Roussanne.
