Description

The complexity and elegance of a Saint-Julien Second Wine

The estate

Château Léoville Poyferré, Médoc Second Cru Classé in 1855, with origins that date back to the early 17th century, is one of the most prestigious estates in the Saint-Julien appellation, on the Left Bank of the Bordeaux region. Masterfully run by the Cuvelier family and neighbours of illustrious estates such as Pichon Baron and Léoville Las Cases, Château Léoville Poyferré benefits from a terroir renowned for its poor Garonne gravel soils, ideal for the vineyard to flourish. In a perpetual quest for perfection, the vinification of each plot is supervised by oenologist Michel Rolland, to gently extract the most authentic expression from each grape variety and each plot. The wines of Château Léoville Poyferré dazzle with their elegance, depth, balance and power.

The vineyard

Château de Léoville Poyferré is a Saint-Julien wine produced from an 80-hectare vineyard, with vines averaging 42 years old, planted on Mindel gravel terraces with sandy-clay subsoils. Pavillon de Léoville Poyferré is the estate's Second Wine.

Winemaking and ageing

Harvested by hand in crates, the bunches are meticulously sorted on the bunch and then optically sorted on the berries. Vinification is carried out on a plot-by-plot basis in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. Alcoholic fermentation is carried out using selected yeasts. The wine is aged for 18 months in two-wine barrels.

Blend

Pavillon de Léoville Poyferré 2022 is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (65%), Merlot (18%), Cabernet Franc (12%) and Petit Verdot (5%).
