Description
The typicality of a Côte-Rôtie wine revealed by Jaboulet-Aîné
The estate
An emblematic name for the great wines of the northern Rhone Valley, the Paul Jaboulet-Aîné House was founded in 1834 in Tain L’Hermitage. The reputed oenologist and winegrower, Caroline Frey, runs this illustrious house, which has been owned by the Frey family since 2006. The Paul Jaboulet-Aîné House overlooks a 125-hectare vineyard, spread across exceptional appellations such as Saint-Joseph, Crozes-Hermitage, Hermitage, Cornas, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu and even Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise.
The vineyard
This 2019 Domaine des Pierrelles by Paul Jaboulet-Aîné is derived from a 1.5-hectare terroir within a historical Côte-Rôtie vineyard. The vines, aged by around 20 to 30 years, are planted on a terroir made up of decomposing mica-schists.
The vintage
The dry winter did not remedy the water stress recorded since 2018. Milder conditions from February encouraged early bud break. This advance was slowed down by the drop in temperatures at the end of March and the beginning of April. Flowering started around 7 June, taking place in very good conditions. The hailstorm in 15 June massively slowed down vine development. Summer conditions were scorching. The rigorous work of the team at the estate throughout the vintage made it possible to harvest healthy and high quality grapes.
Winemaking and ageing
The manually harvested grapes are sorted at the plot. Vatting for around 4 weeks with gentle extractions. Ageing is carried out in French oak barrels, 20% of which are new wood.
Blend
This 2019 Domaine des Pierrelles by Paul Jaboulet-Aîné is 100% Syrah.
Keeping
This 2019 Domaine des Pierrelles by Paul Jaboulet-Aîné can wait in the cellar until 2034 to express its entire aromatic palette.
