The vineyard

This Riesling "Lieu-dit Fels" Domaine Schieferkopf 2018 by M.Chapoutier is made from a biodynamic plot in the commune of Bernardvillé. Situated on a vein of Alsace blue schist, this shallow, south-east facing vineyard with a particularly windy microclimate exudes minerality, elegance and tension. This parcel is recognised as the most mineral of the estate.

The wine

Schieferkopf is one of the Domaines et Maisons managed by M.Chapoutier. This estate watches over a vineyard whose array of exposures and soils reveal all the nuances and richness of Alsatian and German wines.

Vinification and ageing

Manual harvesting. Long pressing followed by static cold settling. Alcoholic fermentation with indigenous yeasts. Total malolactic fermentation, a characteristic of the Schieferkopf estate with its late terroir, in order to develop the complexity, roundness and minerality of the wine. The wine is aged for 15 months in tuns.
