Description
An extremely elegant red wine from Saint-Julien
A second wine of Château Ducru-Beaucaillou, La Croix Ducru-Beaucaillou is a red wine produced in the Saint-Julien appellation. The vineyard is located on Günz terroir. The ageing is carried out in oak barrels for 12 months, with 60% new barrels and 40% barrels used for one previous wine. The 2016 vintage consists of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot.
For La Croix Ducru-Beaucaillou, the 2016 vintage was marked by a fairly complex spring with heavy rains and cool temperatures (causing some pressure from mildew and powdery mildew, but this was quickly contained). The summer that settled brought on heat and severe drought. Thanks to an Indian Summer and a nice thermal amplitude in September, the berries managed to reach optimal maturity and the La Croix Ducru-Beaucaillou teams experienced peaceful harvests.
With its purple carmine colour, La Croix Ducru-Beaucaillou 2016 develops a powerful and tight nose with aromas of black fruits and plums. Extremely well-structured on the palate, the wine reveals magnificent tannins. This wine is very elegant and displays a finish of remarkable length.
