La Grande Châtelaine 2013 from Joseph Mellot : an ample and full-bodied Sancerre
La Grande Châtelaine by Joseph Mellot is a Sauvignon Blanc white wine produced in the Sancerre appellation. The vineyard of 2,40 hectares benefits from the oldest vines of the domain planted on hillsides of caillottes, clay-limestone soils rich in limestones. The wine is aged in oak barrels (of which 30% are new) on lees with regular stirring, for a total of 24 months.
At tasting, La Grande Châtelaine 2013 by Joseph Mellot reveals a fine and refined nose, which gives off spicy, floral and exotic fruits fragrances. Upon aeration, subtle notes of gingerbread come forward on the nose. The wine offers a fresh attack in the mouth and displays fruity flavours in continuity with the nose, before revealing tasty touches of white fruits. The Grande Châtelaine 2013 by Joseph Mellot is ample, full-bodied and has good ageing potential.
