Franck Massard : Huellas 2015

The estate

Franck Massard, a top sommelier with many distinctions including the best sommelier title received in England in 1996, decided to embark on a new adventure in 2004, which led him to Spain. The mystic and superb lands in the Priorat region fascinated him. His project thus began with the acquisition of a plot in the village of El Molar at the south of Barcelona, from which his vineyard was borne.

Franck Massard harnesses his talent as a winemaker through authentic and natural Spanish wines which shine with their freshness and structure alongside robust tannins and an elegant palate. Through these wines and a rare virtuosity, Massard reveals the expression of each grape variety, bringing out Priorat’s unique identity.

The vineyard

Located 30 minutes from Tarragona and 18 kilometres from the sea, the Franck Massard estate enjoys an exceptional terroir at the heart of a natural amphitheatre lying at between 300 and 550 metres above sea level. Upon this zone, which is considered as one of the freshest in Priorat, the Franck Massard vineyard enjoys a unique micro-climate which brings together the cold Cierzo wind and the warmer Garbí, making for milder weather. Thanks to the significant temperature contrasts in the area, the grapes reach a perfect state of maturity and give rise to fine Priotat wines that boast a great aromatic freshness and a beautiful acidity. The berries that make up the Huellas 2015 cru were harvested by hand.

The wine

As a reference to the manual labour which was put into place within the Franck Massard vineyard, this wine takes the name “huellas”, meaning “footprints” in Spanish.
